Ingredients:

I usually call this is summer roll to separate with spring roll when spring roll come with fried way to cook. This is traditional Vietnam dish which one you can find everywhere in Saigon or even oversea in any Vietnam restaurant. It is listed at number 30 on World’s 50 most delicious foods compiled by CNN Go in 2011.

Some people said that the original of summer roll is from China when they have Chinese spring rolls, Chinese biscuit rolls, and Chinese-American egg rolls. But i believe that this is from Vietnam when it comes with different ingredients and we don’t cook the roll.

How to make it?

Look at the picture and i think you can see the ingredients: rice paper, shrimp, pork, noodle, vegetable, chives, bean sprout.

So rice paper is dipped in water, then laid flat on a plate. Put all the ingredient on the top and just roll it. But if you want to have a beautiful, put the pork and shrimp next on the rice paper, before you roll. So after finish the summer roll, you can see shrimp and pork. The sauce comes in two style: light fish sauce or hoisin sauce depend on your taste.

In local family, we usually eat together. All the ingredient will be on the table. But it will be not the same, sometime we have steamed fish, omelet, or even beef but will be runny in boiled vinegar (it’s called Bò Nhúng Giấm), …

Where to have summer roll?

Not really any restaurant for summer roll, it’s always added on the menu of some Vietnam restaurant. Or even you can very easy make at home and enjoy your summer roll. There are some street vendor with small glass cabinet and full of summer roll, if you are careful people, i think not so bad to try!
